Glentrool - No change at 3rd SeptemberNote: Closure of sections of purple 'big country' route, and section of Palgowan green route, Saturday 4th September. The following sections of the purple route will be closed:
It is possible to avoid these section on public roads but the route will not be waymarked. Palgowan Green Route will be closed at the Glencaird Hill section (posts 87 - 94) for the same car rally. The route will follow the short cut back along the public road. Warning: Harvesting is taking place on the purple route in two places: between markers 8-13 until mid-September 2010, and between markers 28-29 until November 2010. Operations finish between markers 37-38 on Friday 3rd September, but there will be timber by the roadside here and between markers 8 and 13 for a period. Please take extra care and obey warning signs. Trails: all open. Some section closures on purple route and green route on Saturday 4th September due to a car rally. Conditions: good. Other: Visitor centre is open. The Break Pad bike shop and hire centre is open 10am - 4pm, 7 days a week. Can also open on request. Go to the Kirroughtree page. Dalbeattie - No change at 3rd SeptemberTrails: all open. Conditions: good. The trail and log after The Eye of the Needle has now been replaced with new raised boardwalks. Diversions: None. Mabie - Updated 3rd SeptemberNote: Look out for vegetation control at Mabie continuing from Monday 6th August lasting about a week. Trails: all open. Vaders' Lair section of Kona Darkside is currently closed. There is still timber sitting at the roadside near Loch Arthur, so please give way to timber lorries and do not pass until signalled to do so by operator. Conditions: good. Ae - Updated 3rd SeptemberNote: Refreshing work taking place on part of the Omega Man (red trail) starting Monday 6th September. The work will last about 2 weeks. There will be a short diversion onto the forest road then back onto the trail. Trails: all open. Conditions: good. Diversions: Short diversion on part of the Omega Man (red trail) using the forest road from Monday 6th September. Uplift: Next uplift 18th & 19th September. Go to the Ae page Glentress - No change at 3rd SeptemberNote: Black option on Falla Brae (post 111) closed until end of September for trail rerouting work (volunteer project with the Trailfairies - fancy lending a hand? Session dates at www.glentresstrailfairies.org). Hub café and bike shop are open 7 days a week. 10.00am - 6.00pm Monday - Friday and 9.00am - 7.00pm Saturday and Sunday. Trails: All trails open. From Mon 6th September until the end of September, Magic Mushroom on the red route will be closed. This will allow forest thinning work to take place. Please follow the diversion signs along the forest road, from post 51 to 53. Temporary closures and diversions on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th September for racing - details below. Black option on Falla Brae (post 111) closed until end of September. Wallrides section in Freeride Park remains closed. Log skinnies (balance beams) on Cardie Hill Climb now open! 5 blue graded skinnies and 2 black graded skinnies to test/progress your balancing skills. All are optional and sit at the side of the main trail. Conditions: Good. Skills area closed on Saturday 11th September from 10.30am to 12.30pm (including short diversion for Red/Black Route riders to bypass forest road climb up side of Freeride Park). On Sunday 12th, Blue Velvet will be closed between 12.30pm and 2.30pm. Please follow the short diversion along forest road, rejoining route at post 28. The forest road between posts 27 & 28 is part of the race route, and marshals will ask trail users to walk/push their bike along the edge of the road whilst racing is on. Trailside vegetation strimming completed - trails riding well. Diversions: None. Uplift: Next uplift is on 4th - 5th Sept. Online booking available at www.upliftscotland.com. Please note - toilets available only on uplift weekends at the moment but public toilets are available in Innerleithen town. Go to the Innerleithen page. Newcastleton - No change at 3rd SeptemberNote: On Sat 4th Sep, parts of Red/Blue/Purple Route will be used in Kielder 100 mtb race. No trails are closed for this but please look out for racers and give them a cheer on between 10am - 4pm. Part of the Dykecroft Centre will be used as a feed station in the race, but parking spaces for regular trail riders will be available. Trails: All trails open except Pouter Lampert singletrack (post 31 to post 33) on Blue/Red Route, closed for tree thinning works until early October 2010. Starting on Mon 30th Aug, look out for chainsaw tree pruning work on Hidden Valley Upper trail on Red Route then on Caddrouns descent (Blue/Red Route). Sections will remain open but please stop and wait for operators to wave you through before passing. Conditions: good, except for forest road between posts 31 and 33 (used for diversion), which is very muddy, as is the forest road between posts 28 and 29 in places, due to the forest operations. We'd recommend avoiding the Blue Route until the roads are cleared. The Purple Route is open and is a good alternative to the Blue Route, at 8km long and all on forest roads, but is hillier (and 3km longer than the Blue). Diversions: Diversion at post 31, along forest road, rejoining Blue/Red Route at post 33 (Priesthill car park) until early October 2010. Other: No cafe facilities at Dykecroft trailhead, though excellent café facilities available in Newcastleton village. Free toilet/shower facilities now available in Newcastleton village.
