17th March 2010

Some snow still hanging around at higher levels. Lower level trails generally OK. Watch for icy patches at Glentress and Innerleithen - very slippy in places.

All car parks open.

We are providing additional updates on the 7stanes blog while the weather is bad as conditions are changing all the time. You can also call the local MTB rangers - numbers provided below.


Glentrool - No change at 17th March 

Warning: Harvesting is taking place on the purple route at Glen Head (post 46) and on the Old Edinburgh Road (posts 30 - 32) until mid-March. Two further harvesting sites will also be in place on this route between markers 8-13 until the end of June 2010 and between way markers 42-43 until the end of August 2010. Please take extra care and obey warning signs.

Trails: all open.

Conditions: Blue and Green trails clear of snow apart from the odd patch. The Big Country route has areas of snow and ice on the forest road sections from the Black Lock right through to Glen Head, take extra care and expect to take longer than usual.

Diversions: none.

Kirroughtree - No change at 17th March

Trails: all open. 

Conditions: Green, Blue & Red routes clear of snow. The black route has the odd patch of snow and ice.

Diversions: none.

Other: Visitor centre is open. From January to March, the Break Pad bike shop and hire centre is open 10am - 4pm, Wednesday - Sunday, closed Mon, Tues. Can alos open on request.

Dalbeattie - No change at 17th March

Note: Resurfacing work now scheduled for week beginning 14th March. Possibility of closures at the Richorn and Town wood car parks. 

Trails: all open. Recent blue and red diversions now removed.

Conditions: Most of the snow has cleared.  There are still small patches of ice on the trails so please ride with care.  As the thaw continues, the trails are becoming wet and muddy in places. Call the FC ranger service on 01387 860247 for latest details.

The trail and log after The Eye of the Needle suffers from flooding in prolonged wet weather. If this is the case, please proceed with care.

Mabie - No change at 17th March

Trails: all open. Heaven's Gate repairs completed.

Mabie Ridge section now open. Vaders' Lair section of Kona Darkside is currently closed.  There is still timber sitting at the roadside near Loch Arthur, so please give way to timber lorries and do not pass until signalled to do so by operator.

Conditions: Most of the snow has cleared.  There are still small patches of ice on the trails so please ride with care.  As the thaw continues, the trails are becoming wet and muddy in places.

Diversions: Short diversion at Vader's Lair on the Kona Dark Side. See the Vader's Lair diversion map (PDF 219k).

More info: The Shed is open 4 days a week: Friday to Monday, 9.00am to 5.00pm, and every 2nd Thursday 7.00pm to 9.00pm for night riding. Please confirm Thursday nights with Jemma at The Shed no later than the Monday of the same week.

Ae - Updated 17th March 

Note: 19th - 21st March, BUCS Student championships at Ae.  This will heavily affect the bike trails - there will be large sections closed and diverted whilst they take place.

Trails: The Downhill route will be open to the public again on Sunday 21st March. Ae valley works now complete.

Conditions: Most of the snow has cleared. There are still small patches of ice on the trails so please ride with care.  As the thaw continues, the trails are becoming wet and muddy in places. Contact the FC ranger service on 01387 860247 for latest details.

Diversions: There's a short diversion around the Bombhole on the section of trail from post 20 to 21 on the red route. There is also a small section been taped off after the bridge at the end of The Edge to avoid a small area that’s been washed away, but its less than 20 yards.

More info: The café will be closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays until further notice due to the weather conditions. Otherwise open every day from 9.00am to 5.00pm.

Glentress -Updated 17th March

All car parks open.  Maintenance work taking place at Buzzards Nest car park until early April. Parking still available but number of spaces reduced.

Hub café and bike shop opening hours are currently 10.00am - 6.00pm Wednesday - Friday and 9.00am - 6.00pm Saturday and Sunday. Closed Monday and Tuesdays from January to Easter.

Trails: all open except for Wallrides section in Freeride Park (reopening date TBC) and two of three raised timber trail lines on Essentials Freeride Trail (closed for grip painting). Black Route closed between posts 87 and 52 and Red Route closed between post 45 and 52 (via the Matrix) due to tree felling operations, until the end of March.

Conditions: Snow and ice still affecting higher trails. Very slippy in places. See http://7stanes.blogspot.com for more detailed report.

Diversions:
 Black Route diverted at post 87 (on Redemption Climb) and Red Route diverted at Post 45 (exit of Hit Squad Hill) due to tree felling operations.  Diversion ends at Post 52 (start of Magic Mushroom).  Diversion will be in place until the end of March (including weekends). Very short diversion 1/3 of the way along Magic Mushroom for trail maintenance work, until the end of March.

Innerleithen - Updated 17th March

Note:  Deerstalker Running Event this Saturday, 20th March.  Event village at Traquair House but course will use some of XC/DH trails at Innerleithen: XC Route from start to post 7, Gold Run Middle, Luge, Tunnel, Make or Brake Middle.  Racing starts at 2pm and 5pm.  DH trails affected will be closed, XC Route will remain open but delays possible at these times. Conditions: Snow and ice still affecting higher level trails. Very slippy in places.

Diversions: None.
