Riverside Walk

This pleasant low level walk winds through the towering spruce trees and alongside the Water of Ae. There are ample opporunities to stop and look for wildlife, such as dippers which dive into the river looking for insects to eat.

How to get there:

Riverside Walk can be started from Ae Valley Car Park in Forest of Ae which is part of Forests of the Southern Uplands. Ae, Dumfries, Moffat, and Thornhill are the nearest towns or villages.

Follow the A701 from Dumfries or Moffat. Take a turning just south of Parkgate, signposted Forest of Ae and follow this road for 2 miles. At the crossroads in Ae Village, keep straight on for another half a mile and the signposted turning for 'Ae Valley car park' where all the forest walks start.
