Sidwood
With two small car parks and a picnic area Sidwood is at the heart of this delightful part of Kielder Forest. Some ancient trees and ornamental species remain from the old Sidwood Estate. This is one of the best sites in Britain for preserved peles or bastles (medieval fortified farmhouses). Some of these ancient monuments can be seen on the Reiver's Trail, one of the network of walking routes that start at Sidwood. These and other walks are featured in 'Walking At Kielder', cost: £2.00, available from Kielder Castle.
